Contribution to the care of a potential risk: heat waves
Project background
In recent decades, the number and the impact of heat waves
throughout the Mediterranean region have increased. In order to develop
mitigation measures to limit the harmful consequences of these heat waves, the
project aims to create a database (temperature analysis, duration, frequency,
impact, etc.), in order to support, (via regular monitoring and centralisation
of historical data), the management of strategies
and adaptation to adverse conditions.
Most significant achievements
Centre for Scientific and Technical Research on Arid Regions Omar El Bernaoui - Algeria :
The two year project has been dedicated to the help mitigate
the harmful consequences of heat waves. In terms of scientific research, we
have collected temperatures over the last 50 years in Algeria, which will allow
us in the future to develop an effective heat-warning system. In addition to
this, we organised a workshop on Heat Risk Management in Algeria in November
2015.
