Development of risk and vulnerability maps for selected coastlines in Malta & Turkey with regard to tsunamis & SLR

Period2012
Partners
Coordinator centre : Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Insular Coastal Dynamics

Project background

The project is the continuation of activities carried out in 2010 and 2011 aiming at identify and mitigate risk and vulnerability to Sea Level Rise and Tsunamis for selected low lying coastal areas in the Maltese islands and Turkey. For more information, see the previous project presentation.

It focused in particular on establishing correlation of Mediterranean regional history of tsunamis to local vulnerability, wind and wave climate studies for selected sites, wave transformation studies, tsunami simulations and computations of the near shore tsunami parameters at selected sites, development of database for the vulnerability risk maps. The 2012-2013 project resulted in the Development of Risk / Vulnerability maps, the comparison of the scenario solutions and computational results, as well as GIS based inundation mapping.
