In the funding period 2014-2015, ECGS continued and extended its research activities, which contribute to the fundamental understanding of the phenomena that need to be taken into account in any state-of-the-art hazard and risk assessment for earthquakes and volcanic activity.
ECGS worked towards improving our understanding on the influence of earthquake source physics variability on the variability of the observed earthquake ground motions. To this end, Dr. Adrien Oth spent three months as a visiting researcher at the Earthquake Research Institute (ERI) of the University of Tokyo.ECGS installed a new seismic station in Luxembourg in order to further complement the existing seismic network.
Study on the source contribution to ground motion observations (which investigates if and how strongly the characteristics of the earthquake source process translate directly into earthquake ground motion variability, with main focus on the earthquake’s stress release and radiated energy)
Installation of an additional seismic station which will be part of the Luxembourg Seismic Network managed by ECGS
