Enhancing the national interagency and international cross-boundary dialogue and inter-operability in fire management in Southeast Europe and Eastern Europe

Period2016 - 2017
Partners
Coordinator centre : Global Fire Monitoring Center

Project background

Following the history and experience of GFMC in establishing and facilitating national inter-agency cooperation and international cross-boundary cooperation in fire management in the South Caucasus and Central Asia as well as through the CoE/EUR-OPA supported dialogue in the frame of the UNECE/FAO Regional Forum on Cross-boundary Fire Management (UN Geneva, 2013), it is envisaged, in cooperation with the Regional Fire Monitoring Centres of SE Europe and Eastern Europe, to conduct two model "National Round Tables on Fire Management" and two Regional Consultations. The National Round Tables shall be held in Skopje and Kiev, the seats of the two RFMCs. Both Round Tables shall convene the national actors / stakeholders, which have a mandate (agencies) or voluntary commitment (civil society) in fire management (fire management at "landscape level", i.e. in all types of lands or society). At regional level countries bordering the two model countries shall be invited to review or propose agreements and procedures for cross-boundary cooperation in fire management, particularly for wildfire emergencies.
